Tiistaina päätin, että jo riittää keittiömme joulu ainainen. Paperitähti oli roikkunut ikkunassa joulukuun alusta asti, siitäkin huolimatta että siitä paloi lamppu jo helmikuussa. Tilalle askartelin värikkään pallonauhan, ja heti keittiön ilme muuttui iloiseksi ja keväiseksi. Nyt hymyilen joka kerta keittiössä käydessäni.
Pallukat ovat peräisin La Case de Cousin Paul -valosarjasta, jonka hankin marraskuussa 2011. Vaikka valot olivat tosi kauniit, en silti ollut itse valosarjan laatuun kovin tyytyväinen. Ensimmäiset lamput sammuivat hyvin nopeasti käyttöönoton jälkeen. Noin puolen vuoden käytön jälkeen koko valosarja sammahti, eikä suostunut enää syttymään. Sanotaanko, että odotin parempaa. Onko muilla ollut samaa ongelmaa, vai sattuko minun kappaleeni vain olemaan susi? Vaikka eivät valosarjat nykyään tunnu muutenkaan kestävän mitään: viime jouluna ripustetuista valoista sammui eka pätkä samana iltana ja maaliskuussa valot olivat palaneet kokonaan.
Valosarjan kauneimman osan eli ne pallot voi silti onneksi kierrättää. Nauhaksi kevyet pallukat sopivat täydellisesti. Vedin ohuen puuvillanyörin pitkällä neulalla pallojen läpi ja solmin ne paikoilleen - voilá! Helppoa ja kaunista.

On Tuesday I decided that I've had enough of the endless Christmas in our kitchen. The paper star had been there since Christmas, despite the fact that the light stopped working in February. I made a colourful ball garland to replace it, and the kitchen instantly turned happy and spring-like. Now I smile very time I visit there.
The balls are from fairy lights by La Case de Cousin Paul that I bought in November 2011. The lights were very beautiful, but I wasn't that happy with the quality of the lights. First lamps died very soon after taking it in use. About half a year later the garland died completely and wouldn't turn on again. Let's say, I expected better. Have any of you had the same problem, or did I just happen to get a faulty product? Even though the other string lights don't seem to last either these days: I bought new fairy lights last Christmas, and the first section died the same evening. In May all the bulbs were burnt.
Luckily it was possible to recycle the prettiest part of the lights, in other words the balls. They make a perfect garland cause they're so light. I just strung a cotton cord through them with a long needle and made little knots to keep them in place - voilá! Easy and beautiful.
Himoitsin joskus noita valopallukoita, mutta hinta taisi olla sen verran kova että jäi vain haaveiluksi. Hyvä niin, jos eivät kerran tuon enempää kestä alkuperäisessä käytössä. Onneksi kuitenkin toimivat tuolla tavalla kierrätysversiona, sillä hirveän kauniitahan nuo pallot ovat.
