Ole valmiina // Be prepared

Sunday 6.45 PM

Wednesday 6.45 AM

Aamuisin on pimeää. Iltaisin on pimeää.

It's dark in the mornings. It's dark in the evenings. The day between these two dark times goes too quickly and when you finally rember you were planning to photograph something to your blog, it's too dark already. We are at that point of autumn where I feel like staying under a blanket all the time and want to leave at least one light on for the night. When the inspiration and exitement hide somewhere and things are not getting done because I'm so tired all the time. I'm a bit worried I have to say, if I'm this tired now, how tired will I be when the winter is here?

But the winter is coming and it's getting darker, no matter what. So I'll have to get prepared. Take out the candles, fairy lights and colorful accessories. Buy extension cord so I'll be able to put more floor lamps to our living room that has only two plug ins. And buy more vitamins to replace the ones I found from the closet that had expired in December 2009 (yes, we eat lots of vitamins around our house). I'll have to knit a red beanie and yellow scarf, as bright colours have more impact on me than vitamins do. I have to find pairs to lonely woolen socks and take out the scarves. And I have to curl up under a blankie on the sofa often enough to do nothing. Just be. Let myself rest and breathe on tired days.

  1. Darkness gets to me, too, and we've recently moved much farther north. (Not near as north as you, though!) So I'm thinking I'll have to prepare in much the same way. Thanks for the great suggestions!

  2. The older I get, the more I have decided that there is nothing wrong with indulging in your body's desire to rest and do nothing. Obviously, we can't do it everyday, but I think we need to practice self-care much more often than we normally do!
