Malli: omasta päästä
Lanka: Spar Kjøp Safirgarn
Puikot: 3,5 mm

Aurinkoisen väriset tassunlämmittimet on tehty ylhäältä alaspäin.

Pattern: from my head
Yarn: Spar Kjøp Safirgarn

Needles: 3,5 mm

These sunshiny yellow mitts are knitted from top down. I first knitted a narrow, long strip in garter stitch and sewed it to a ring. This ring is the rib on the top of the mitt, and I picked up stitches from it's edge to make the actual mitt (picked some amount of stitches and casted on one on each needle = 36 stitches). I then knitted in stockingnette until I was at the top part of the thumb. The thumb part is made by turning the piece around in between of the same needles and knitting back on the wrong side - in other words the cuff is at this part is not knitted in a round, but one side is left open, and this is creates the hole the thumb goes through. When the hole is big enough, just continue normally, and knitting in a round will close the bottom part of the thumb hole. After that just knit until the cuff is long enough. I ended mine with rib stitch, and the same rib is repeated on the thumb. The stitches for the thumb are picked from the edge of the thumb hole (18 stitches). On the first round I made two decreases, one in each end of the hole, to make the thumb fit better.

The process sounds harder than it is when written out - it was pretty easy to knit these. And more interesting than knitting the basic bottom up - version. I also love how the rib looks on the top of the mitts. The new owner (pictured) also approves and recommends.

  3. The color is great! But it does look hard to make, I just started knitting, but I'm really want to give this a go and try!

Actually those are pretty easy to make, it's just hard to explain how to make them ;) If you can make a pair of basic fingerless mitts, you can make these as well. There are lot of patterns to fingerless mittens - go ahead and find one and give it a try in case you can't make a pair after my crappy explanation. And I love this color too!
